Julio Alpuy (Tacuarembó, 1919). An Uruguayan artist who studied with Joaquín Torres García at his renowned School of the South in Montevideo. Alpuy modified the rigid Constructivist style of his master into a more humanistic and light-hearted version. In Cuerpos Pintados, he transferred that magical world of signs and symbols onto the skin of his models, transforming a simple game of symbols into a visual language of images in movement filled with joy.
